MOMENTUM, by Omar Guerra M, grows out of research into one of the scarcest materials of our time: attention. In an era defined by speed, the fragmentation of experience and the ceaseless consumption of stimuli, the artist asks what it really means to look, and how much time we are willing to devote to an act of contemplation.

The starting point for this research was a review of studies placing the average span of human attention in 2025 at between 40 and 47 seconds. Comparing this with what happens in museums and galleries, Guerra found a revealing coincidence: the average time a viewer spends with an artwork tends to fall within that same range, between 40 and 45 seconds. From that observation, the series opens a reflection on the limits of contemporary perception and on the possibility of slowing the gaze down.

The works present geometric structures that appear to be in constant transformation. Though they remain still within these limbos of firm color, they produce a sense of displacement, oscillating between stability and movement, between the material and the intangible. The central polygons, developed in a tone called mushroom, work as fields of energy that alter the visual experience as viewing time passes, inviting the viewer to stay beyond the immediate impulse of the gaze.

The exhibition expands into a sonic dimension that accompanies and amplifies this search. The music of Miles Davis, present throughout the making of these works, returns here transformed through interventions that alter its original structures, stretching time, fragmenting rhythm and generating new ways of listening. Like the visual pieces, these compositions propose a temporal suspension that resists the logic of immediacy.

Momentum does not seek to represent movement, but to provoke a conscious experience of perceiving it. In that space of tension between duration and speed, between contemplation and distraction, the work poses a fundamental question: how much time are we really willing to inhabit an image?

Omar Guerra M is a visual artist, independent curator and cultural manager whose career has focused on designing, launching and consolidating long-term contemporary art projects.

He trained in Audiovisual Media in Guadalajara and continued his education in the Corpus Callosum program, directed by Guillermo Santamarina, as well as in Art History studies at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. These experiences shaped a critical outlook oriented toward contemporary practices, interdisciplinary work and the connection between local and international contexts.

Since the late 1990s he has taken an active part in shaping the contemporary art ecosystem in Guadalajara, co-founding the collective Jalarte A.I., Galería 390 x 240, Proyecto Inn-Box and Artere-a.

As an artist, his work has been exhibited in museums and spaces across Mexico, the United States, Europe and Latin America, and published in specialized media such as New York Art Magazine and Artishock. It has been shown at, among others, the Armory Center for the Arts, Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil, 407 Gallery, Ex Teresa Arte Actual, Steppling Art Gallery, Museo Cabañas, Nodo Caracas, Tyller Gallery, Museo de Arte de Zapopan, Galería Tiro al Blanco and Museo de las Artes.
